Song-a-Day, Archon report
As an early birthday present to myself, I have decided that every day for the next year I am going to write, and post on LJ, at least one new song parody. The first one is a song about Archon. I wrote it yesterday, so I still need to write today's song. I have plans for that. Archon, by the way, was great, and I got a few good ideas I might suggest for the Worldcon next year. One was bardic concerts, where several people are on stage taking turns. I shared stages at two concerts with Gary Ehrlich, William Warren, Mary Crowell, Tom Smith, and others. Having admired Tom's work for some years, I was honored and pleased to find myself up on stage with him. Seems to me we used to do the same kind of thing at MileHiCon filk concerts, and I shared a spotlight with Kathy Mar, Peter Beagle and quite a few others. I think it's a good way to bring attention and attendance to lesser-luminaries such as myself.
Anyhow, here's yesterday's song:
Archon (For Tuckercon, the 9th NASFiC and the 31st Archon, 2007)
by Blind Lemming Chiffon
tune: Our Town, by Iris DeMent (from the CD Infamous Angel, which I can't recommend highly enough.)
chorus:
Don't you know, the dog's about dead
And after four days, time to put it to bed
Well, go on, say farewell to your friends
In just one more year you might see them again.
Go on now and say goodbye to Archon, to Archon
Can't you see the sun's setting down on Archon, on Archon, good night.
(chorus repeats after each verse.)
Across the river in 1982
I saw my first Archon - did I see it with you?
The guest of honor was, I think, Stephen King
It's been 25 years, and I'm still here to sing.
It's there I sold books, and I had a few laughs,
Met a few authors, got some autographs
Phyllis Eisenstein could really write.
Walt Leibscher was cool - I met Tucker one night.
Walt Leibscher is gone, George Alec Effinger too
When the book says "The End" there's not much you can do.
Wilson "Bob" Tucker has said his last "Smooth."
It brings a tear to my eye when I think of my youth.
Now I'm back in my room and I'm writing this song
My plane leaves tomorrow; it won't be too long.
I wish I could stay, wish the con was still here.
I hope all my friends come to Denver next year.
