Why I haven't been writing any songs lately - PLEA FOR HELP!
I have what seems to others like a "minor" health problem, but it isn't minor to me. Symptoms are deep under-the-skin itchy red blotches on hands, feet, scalp, arms, chest and back.feet, sometimes developing into hard painful bumpy spots. Right now I have one of the bumpy spots on my foot and I can't put my shoes on. This has been going on maybe 4 weeks. I first tried all the usual OTC remedies - they cost a lot, and provide either zero or temporary (like 5 minutes) relief. The first doc thought it was some kind of allergy or cold sores, gave me Doxepin (I take Allegra and had already tried adding some Benadryl) and said it should work in 3-4 days. It didn't. The second doctor thinks what I have is hives, said I should have given the meds 2-3 weeks (come ON - I'm SUFFERING here) and switched me to Hydroxyzine and Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USO 0.1%. That was 5 days ago. The red spots on my arms disappeared after 24 hours. but now they're coming back and it's also on my scalp, the back of my neck, etc. The cream does provide temporary relief to where I can sleep for 2-3 hours at a time.

And no, I haven't changed anything about my diet, environment or personal products lately.

I'm not asking for or expecting any free medical advice, but do any of you know any good home remedies that I haven't tried yet? Let's see, I've tried vitamins of all kinds, eucerin cream, hydrocortisone cream, gold bond cream, vaseline intensive care, cutting things out of my diet (I have no history of food allergies, but what the heck), pain meds and just relaxing. My BP is 130/82 according to my home monitor.

And yes, I plan to try the doctor again on Monday. This time, I'll try to get either my PCP or a dermatologist.

The other thing that's bugging me - and I'm working very hard not to be stressed out about it - is trying to get Fedex to deliver a package to me. I spent 12 hours today waiting for a package that never came, and being unable to leave the house. Their customer service is not very helpful, and can't do anything at all until Monday, at which point they probably still can't. I work 8-5, have called them and asked for evening delivery, and they said no they can't do that but they can deliver on Saturday. I called 5 times today to try to get a delivery time window, but they couldn't do that either, although they did promise me more than once over the phone that the package would be delivered today, and that they deliver up until 8:00 PM. According to the internet tracking, my driver called it quits at 5:46 PM without delivering my package. The company that sent the package refused to send it to my PO box, which is also very annoying. Going to pick up the package is about a $20 cab ride, which would probably have been better, in retrospect, than waiting at my house all day.

Needless to say, I will never again do business with these lying sacks of garbage, and UPS is on my list as well.

I know there's nothing any of you can do (other than patronize the US Postal Service, which, I think, has much better customer service) but it's been nice venting my frustration. If any of you would like to call FedEx and tell them for me what you think of them, their number is 1 800 463 3339.

Oh yuck, I'm sorry to hear you are suffering with Mystery Skin Condition. I had some Mystery Hives a few years ago and never did figure out the cause, it was so frustrating. I don't have any good OTC advice for you - hydroxyzine is the best antihistamine for hives, and triamcinolone is a way stronger anti-itch cream than anything you can buy without a prescription. You could try urea cream, 10 or 20%, as an add-on - it's pretty good for itching and redness, but it will sting like a bastard and if triamcinolone isn't cutting it, urea might not do anything either. I hope your doctor can sort you out on Monday. There ARE lots of prescription options for Mystery Skin Ailments that you haven't tried yet, so there is hope for relief yet!

Thanks for the support. I don't feel any better, but you augmented my enervated cheerfulness, and gave me a chance to use the thesaurus.

By chance.. Laundry detergent get changed to a different brand??

Hopefully Monday's Dr. can identify it. Speedy recovery with whatever is wrong.

And as for FedEx, write them a letter and sign it in a different color other than black ink and mail it to them. Maybe they will do something about the problem employee(s).

Nope on the detergent. I only use perfume-free products. And I never eat any seafood at all, much less shellfish. I've been asked that one more than once. Thanks for the thoughts.

What I'm thinking is, now that I have a direct number for the corporate office, that is who I will call on Monday. I will very politely explain the situation, ask what they can do for me, and ask for someone who can do something if the person tells me there is nothing they can do. If they ask me what I'd suggest, I'd say compensation of $50 per hour for the 12 hours I waited due to their falsehoods (I took enough business law classes to know that when a company offers a verbal contract it can be legally binding, and there can be penalties for failing to fulfill the contract.) Plus, I'll allow them to get off for half of that if they send the money, and my package, directly to my house at an agreed-upon time in the hands of the highest local official of their company, so that I can tell them about 30 ways I can suggest that they improve their customer service, like (1) Offering customer service people who can actually do things other than apologize and make excuses, (2) Offering services for working people, such as making available deliver at restricted times during their delivery hours (i.e., after I get home from work), and (3) not telling so many lies on their internet tracking. Like, when the package is on the truck but they don't attempt to deliver it, they enter it as "delivery attempted." If they don't offer some acceptable result, I may resort to filing a lawsuit to force them to pay me for my time. I'm not a lawyer, but I think I could win.

Anybody got stock in FedEx, sell sell sell! Bad company!

Hrm. Oatmeal bath? Aveeno makes one, and there are off-brands that work just as well. (They're not lumpy or anything.) Even if it doesn't help long-term, it's a soothing, non-smelly sort of temporary relief.

Straight grease is often good for soothing random skin ailments that are irritated by lotions. There's petroleum jelly (vaseline), various oils, Burt's Bees hand salve smells like rosemary, which is kinda nice. If your skin doesn't mind lanolin, A&D ointment can be good. Again, no water, so non-drying and usually non-irritating.

And a random thing from when I was growing up, Corn Husker's lotion might help. It's water and glycerin, mostly.

If nothing else, talcum powder might help relieve chafing from socks, etc.

Eucerin has oatmeal in it. Feels cool when it goes on, gives relief for maybe 5 minutes, smells oogy, and peels off like elmer's glue when it dries.

I've also tried icing the painful spots to reduce inflammation. Annoying and not very effective.

Thanks for thinking about me. I've literally spent around $100 on OTC crap, and most of it doesn't do anything. I was thinking of roasting myself over an open flame, except that it would just give the religious fanatics exactly what they want.

One person told me all these creams may be blocking my pores and keeping the toxins from getting out. Interesting theory. Truth to tell, I think the doctors know less about this than they do how to cure a cold. Maybe I'll try a witch doctor or GNC next.

I believe that walla-walla bing-bang will be more effective than rama-lama bing-bang.

Beyond that I am of no help. Good luck!

I didn't want to use the actual words in print, which might cause multiple women to fall in love with me at the same time. Very dangerous/

I thought it was bomp she-bomp she-bomp that made women fall for a guy? Or perhaps booglie shoop? And I think the ladies have to hear the words. So go ahead with the witch doctor thing.
Just stay away from that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth!

Whatever you do, hope you feel better soon! Hugs!

Technically, the thing you're speaking of is within a separate context, and involves an anonymous third party - the guy who put the bomp in the bomp sh bomp sh bomp - this thing has more to do with actual magic - and it's not the only song in its genre - the other one that comes to mind is "I Put a Spell On You."

But me, I want to be loved for myself alone, and not my yellow hair. (reference: Yeats http://www.artofeurope.com/yeats/yea7.htm)

What a cynical old creep Yeats was.

This morning I made a voodoo doll, gave it a lock of my hair, and I've been taking a blowtorch to the affected areas. No luck so far, but it works better than hydrocortisone.

Sorry to hear you've got problems. Sounds like it might be the beginnings of eczema or psoriasis, neither of which is fun--itches like crazy. One of the guys at work has it really bad, and has 1 lb jars of skin cream on his desk.

If the skin is thickening and/or flaking, that might be what it is.

Or, you could have picked up a third-world parasite infestation. Been to India or Egypt lately?

Sorry...seriously, try to get a dermatologist to check it out and eliminate eczema/psoriasis. If so great. If not, they can try specific treatments.
